Marfan Syndrome With Bicuspid Aortic Valve Diagnosed By Transesophageal Echocardiography

چکیده
In diagnosing MS, even though investigators recently identified a defective FBN 1 gene as cause of this hereditary condition, employing a genetic test a sa diagnostic tool is not partical in the near future (3). This is because of the extreme variability in the FBN 1 gene on chromosome 15. It has been shown (1) that transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) provides rapid diagnostic information in patients with MS with suspected aortic dissection and enhances the assessment of cardiovascular manifestations of this condition. Cystic medial necrosis and bicuspid aortic valves in patients without the overt clinical signs of MS are reported in (4). Using TEE, it has been shown (5) that bicuspid aortic valves are associated with ruptured aortic dissection in the left atrium. Despite many reports in which TEE has been shown to reveal cardiovascular manifestations of MS, the association of MS with bicuspid aortic valves has not been made.

Unicuspid Aortic Stenosis in a Patient with Turner Syndrome: A Case Report
Congenital aortic valve anomalies are the cause of premature aortic stenosis in pediatric and younger adult populations. Despite being very rare, unicuspid aortic valves account for approximately 5% of isolated aortic valve replacements. Patients with aortic stenosis, present with the same symptomatology independent of leaflet morphology. However, the presence of bicuspid and unicuspid aortic s...

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to use transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to define the mechanisms of aortic regurgitation (AR) in acute type A aortic dissection so as to assist the surgeon in identifying patients with mechanisms of AR suitable for valve preservation. BACKGROUND Significant AR frequently complicates acute type A aortic dissection necessitating either aortic valve...
متن کاملLong-Term Risk for Aortic Complications After Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients With Bicuspid Aortic Valve Versus Marfan Syndrome.
BACKGROUND Bicuspid aortic valves are associated with valve dysfunction, ascending aortic aneurysm and dissection. Management of the ascending aorta at the time of aortic valve replacement (AVR) in these patients is controversial and has been extrapolated from experience with Marfan syndrome, despite the absence of comparative long-term outcome data. OBJECTIVES This study sought to assess whe...
متن کاملA case of bicuspid aortic valve with two raphes
A 60-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for exertional shortness of breath. She was made aware of a heart murmur as a high school student. She had exertional dyspnea and chest pain. Her symptoms were getting worse over the previous year. On admission, her blood pressure was 160/54 mmHg, heart rate was 72 bpm, and grade 3/6 regurgitant murmur over the precordium was present. She was dia...
متن کاملFibrin glue on an aortic cusp detected by transesophageal echocardiography after valve-sparing aortic valve replacement: a case report
INTRODUCTION Fibrin glue is used commonly during cardiac surgery but can behave as an intracardiac abnormal foreign body following surgery. There have been few such cases reported, and they were typically noticed only because of the resulting catastrophic cardiac conditions, such as valvular malfunction. We report a case where, for the first time, transesophageal echocardiography was used to de...
